Ivan
Rabuzin - biography
Ivan Rabuzin was born in Ključ near Novi Marof in Croatia
on March 27. 1921.
His father was a miner and Ivan was the 6th child in a family
with 11 children.
After primary school he first worked with his father and
later he was trained as a carpenter in Zagreb.
In 1944. he starts drawing figures and landscapes.
Between 1945 and 1947 he is designing furniture and taking
evening classes at the academy of arts in Zagreb. While
working in Novi Marof he continues to develop his painting
techniques and landscapes in his spare time and during the
holidays.
From 1958 onwards he has dewoted himself entirely to his
art.
As early as 1959 Rabuzin descovered his own unique themes
and style. It means departure from traditional,naive painting
with its tradition in the then Yugoslavia.
He deliberately moved away from realistic structures and
concrete shapes to create a world that was entirely his
own.
In 1973 his first mayor exhibition is held in Mona Lisa
art gallery in Paris.
As his art develops he also applies his talents to oil painting
and graphic art, he makes designs for China and his characteristic
style also appears in tapesties.
To date his work has been shown in over a hundred exhibitions.
A special exhibition of his entire work was held in Zagreb
in Octobar/November 1992. On this occasion a book was published
presenting most of his work together with an overview of
his exhibitions and publications of his art.
Many museums all over the world have include Rabuzin`s work
in their collections.
