Lackoviæ-Croata - biography
Painter and graphic artist, born on January 1,
1932 in Podravina village of Batinska (Northern Croatia).
Since 1957 he has lived in Zagreb. In his early works Lackovic
expressed naturally and sincerely his experience of nature
and life in his native Batinska. After moving to Zagreb
Lackovic continued to paint poetic scenes from his native
village in tempera and oils on glass, and afterwards his
nostalgic records were made mostly in the drawings. Motives
depicting winter scenes with plentiful and tranquil sequence
of characteristic details prevail in his early stage, while
later works contain more and more motives having symbolic
meaning.
Drawing is fundamental to the natural nobility of Lackovic's
painting. Since 1964 his reputation as an artist and engraver
has been continuously established. Technical mastery enables
him to achieve unique lyrical harmony as well as richly
surrealistic visions. The tranquility and nobility of his
express ion enhances the poetic content of his work.
Lackovic has presented approximately two hundred exhibitions
in Croatia as well as in culture centers on all six continents.
Works by Ivan Lackovic - Croata are to be found in numerous
distinguished museums and galleries throughout the world.
The works of Ivan Lackovic - Croata have been the subject
of several monographs and books of reproductions. During
his fourty year artistic career, Lackovic has received many
awards and honors.
