Grad a town and harbour on the north-western
part of the island of Hvar. Chief occupations
include farming, viniculture, olive growing,
fruit growing, grapes proces-sing,

and tourism. Situated on the regional
road running along the island; ferry port.
Anchoring ground for yachts northeast
of Cape Fortin; when the bora blows, yachts
can find shelter in the coves Zavala and
Tiha, when the sirocco blows, in the coves
Graciste, Sveti Ante, Maslinica. The summer
months offer numerous cultural and sports
events: the Summer of Stari Grad, concerts,
recitals, shows. Stari Grad hosts the
International Summer Music School in July
and August. The first Sunday in September
attracts many swimmers on the Faros Marathon,
International Croatia Cup in long-distance
swimming.
