| Lastovo,
a small town above the northern coast
in the north-eastern part of the island
of Lastovo; elevation 26 m. Economy is
based on farming, growing of vines and
olives, fishing
|
| and
tourism. The pier is located in a small,
shallow cove called Sveti Mihovil (St.
Michael), protected only from southerly
winds. Lastovo is located on the regional
road running throughout the island. Above
Lastovo, the largest place on the island,
is the peak with a meteorological station,
which offers a beautiful view on the eastern
part of the island, the islets of Lastovci
and the neighbouring island of Korcula.
Lastovo is an ideal place for peaceful
vacations, far from the usual crowd of
tourists. Quality accommodation facilities
(hotel, apartments), home-made food (Lastovo
is famous for spiny lobsters) and exquisite
wines, as well as sports and recreational
opportunities - yachting, surfing, fishing
- guarantee a pleasant stay. Especially
attractive are excursions by boat to the
islands and islets of the Lastovo archipelago,
with bathing and fish picnic opportunities.
The island of Saplun is famous for its
beautiful sand beaches. Lastovo has also
preserved picturesque traditional costumes,
worn by the local populations on special
occasions. The folklore also includes
old customs and legends. Very interesting
is the Lastovo carnival, known as one
of the most picturesque fiestas on the
Adriatic. |
