Croatia
Often seen through recent war and customs and gastronomy that are not originally Croatian at all, Croatia struggles to reveal its true identity. Unlike many countries Croatia is full of cultural and historical diversity due to different influences we had through our history.
Croatia should be seen as a country of regions with different customs, traditions and cuisine. Main Croatian regions are:
- Hrvatsko Zagorje and Central Croatia north western part of the country
- Slavonija and Baranja the eastern part
- mountainous regions of Lika and Gorski Kotar
- coastal region Istria and Dalmatia
When thinking about our country the first things that come to our mind are:
Beautiful nature with its:
- diverse topography
- 1185 islands
- Velebit a mountain of unique natural beauty, recognized as a part of international network of Biosphere Reserves.
- Kornati islands as George Bernard Shaw wrote "On the last day of the Creation God desired to crown his work, and thus created the Kornati Islands out of tears, stars and breath"
- Plitvice lakes one of the most beautiful national parks in Europe
- the richest bird reservation in Europe (until the Serbian aggression in 1991) - Kopacki Rit
and many more...
Exceptional Croatian cultural heritage:
- Beautiful and well preserved medieval cities through the country
- Croatia's folk art that would include famous Pag and Lepoglava lace, traditional clothes, music and jewelry
- unique gastronomy
- world famous artists and scientists
